Companions: Sentinels, Kubrows, Kavats, MOAs and more
A companion fights at your side, picks up loot and protects you. Here you learn which types exist, how to get them, how Precepts work and which weapons and mods they need.
This tutorial is only available in English and German for now.

01What is it about?
A companion is a small helper you equip in the Arsenal and take into every mission. Depending on the type, it fights, pulls items to you, scans enemies or gives you buffs. You can only bring one companion at a time. Like Warframes and weapons, companions level up to rank 30 and get their own mods.
The most important terms in short:
- Sentinel
- A floating robot companion. It brings its own weapon and follows you everywhere, even through the air.
- Beast companion
- Living companions such as Kubrows, Kavats, Predasites and Vulpaphylas. They fight in melee with their claws.
- Precepts
- Special mods that define what a companion can do. They have the Penjaga polarity.
- Companion weapon
- The weapon of Sentinels, MOAs and Hounds. You install normal rifle, shotgun, pistol or melee mods.
- Modular companions
- MOAs, Hounds, Predasites and Vulpaphylas are built from several parts you choose yourself.
- Gilding
- A modular companion at rank 30 is gilded at its vendor. Only then does it give mastery and unlock all features.
- Incapacitated
- When your companion runs out of health, it is out for a while. It no longer dies for good.
02The companion types at a glance
There are seven classes. Three are robots, four are living animals. Robots carry a companion weapon, beasts fight with claws.

| MOA | Robot, modular | Lambeo Moa, Para Moa, Nychus Moa | From Legs in Fortuna for Solaris United standing |
| Hound | Robot, modular | Dorma Tazı, Bhaıra Tazı, Hec Tazı | From a vanquished Sister of Parvos |
| Kubrow | Beast | Sunika Kubrow, Chesa Kubrow, Raksa Kubrow | Hatch a Kubrow Egg in the Incubator |
| Kavat | Beast | Smeeta Kavat, Adarza Kavat, Vasca Kavat | Kavat Genetic Codes in the Incubator |

| Vulpaphyla | Beast, modular | Panzer Vulpaphyla, Sly Vulpaphyla, Crescent Vulpaphyla | Conservation in the Cambion Drift, then Son |
03Getting a Sentinel
Sentinels are the easiest start. Every Sentinel brings its own weapon. That is why it takes two companion slots: one for itself and one for the weapon.
Taxon: You get the blueprint for the Junction between Earth and Venus. More copies cost 5,000 Credits in the Market.
Carrier,
Dethcube,
Diriga,
Shade and
Wyrm: blueprints for 100,000 Credits each in the Market.
Helios and
Djinn: research in the Clan Dojo (Helios in the Energy Lab, Djinn in the Bio Lab).
Oxylus: blueprint from The Business in Fortuna, at the top rank with Solaris United.
Nautilus: parts from Railjack missions in the Neptune Proxima.- Prime Sentinels: parts from Void Relics: farming Prime parts or by trading.
04Hatching Kubrows and Kavats
Kubrows and Kavats grow up in your Orbiter’s Incubator. You unlock the Incubator with the quest “Howl of the Kubrow”. It starts from the Codex after the Junction between Venus and Mercury.
- 01
Play the quest
In “Howl of the Kubrow” you grab the Incubator Segment on Unda (Venus) and install it in your Orbiter.
- 02
Build an Incubator Power Core
The blueprint is in the Market. It costs 100,000 Credits, 4,500 Nano Spores, 2 Control Modules and 1 Argon Crystal and takes 8 hours.
- 03
Kubrow: get an egg
A Kubrow Egg sometimes drops when you destroy Kubrow Dens in Earth’s forest tileset, for example on Mantle. In the Market it costs 10 Platinum.
- 04
Kavat: scan codes
Scan Feral Kavats in the Orokin Derelict on Deimos, for example on Horend. You need 10 Kavat Genetic Codes and a Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment.
- 05
Hatch and mature
Hatching takes 48 hours, or is instant for 15 Platinum. Then you name your pet and mature it in the Incubator. Only then can it join missions.
The
Vasca Kavat is a special case: let your Kavat get infected by a wild Vasca Kavat at night in the Plains of Eidolon, then take a code from it in the Incubator. Two such codes guarantee a Vasca Kavat.
05MOAs, Hounds, Predasites and Vulpaphylas
You build these four types from parts. The model (the head) decides the abilities, the other parts decide the stats and the look.
| Type | Parts | Where | Gilding |
|---|---|---|---|
| MOA | Model, Core, Gyro, Bracket | Blueprints from Legs in Fortuna, build in the Foundry, assemble at Legs for 4,000 Credits | 10 Training Debt-Bonds and 5,000 standing, Solaris United rank 3 |
| Hound | Model, Core, Bracket, Stabilizer | Blueprints from vanquished Sisters, assemble at Legs for 4,000 Credits | Same as the MOA |
| Predasite / Vulpaphyla | Weakened subspecies, Mutagen, Antigen | Capture the subspecies through Conservation in the Cambion Drift, buy Mutagen and Antigen from Son in the Necralisk, assemble there for 5,000 Credits | 10 Son Tokens and 5,000 standing |
You get your Sister’s complete Hound directly when you vanquish her. How that works is in Sisters of Parvos: Candidate, Hounds and Tenet weapons. How to collect the standing you need is explained in Syndicates, open worlds and standing.
06Precepts: your companion’s abilities
Companions have no ability keys. You control what they do with Precepts. These are mods with the Penjaga polarity. Every companion has its own Precepts, which you get automatically when you build or hatch it. Others work for a whole class, for example all robots or all beasts.
- Order matters: the top left slot has the highest priority, the bottom right slot the lowest.
- Precepts do not have to sit in a Penjaga slot. There they just cost less capacity.
- Sentinels only attack when an attack Precept such as
Assault Mode is installed.
| Mod | For | Effect |
|---|---|---|
Vacuum | Robots (Sentinels, MOAs, Hounds) | Pulls items and mods to you from 13.5 m |
Fetch | Beasts | The beast version of Vacuum |
Animal Instinct | All companions | Shows enemies and loot on the minimap |
Loyal Retriever | Beasts | Chance for resource and credit pickups to count twice |
Assault Mode | Sentinels | The Sentinel fires its weapon on its own |
Sacrifice | Sentinels | Revives you when you are downed |
07Companion weapons and their mods
Sentinels, MOAs and Hounds carry their own weapon. It has unlimited ammo and takes normal weapon mods of its class. A mod can sit in your own weapon at the same time. These weapons have no Exilus slot and no Arcanes.
| Weapon | Comes with | Takes mods for |
|---|---|---|
| Sweeper | Carrier | Shotgun, e.g. Point Blank |
| Deconstructor | Helios (only Helios can use it) | Melee (a glaive) |
| Deth Machine Rifle | Dethcube | Rifle, e.g. Serration |
| Laser Rifle | Wyrm | Rifle |
| Artax | Taxon | Rifle |
| Stinger | Djinn | Rifle |
| Multron | Oxylus | Rifle |
| Vulklok | Diriga | Sniper rifle |
| Burst Laser | Shade | Pistol |
| Cryotra, Tazicor, Vulcax, Helstrum | Blueprints from Legs, for Sentinels and MOAs | Rifle |
| Akaten, Batoten, Lacerten | Hounds (only they can use them) | Melee |
08Survival: Link mods and incapacitation
Since the 2024 companion rework, companions no longer die for good. When their health hits 0, they are incapacitated. After 60 seconds (base value) they come back on their own and are invulnerable for 5 seconds. This can happen as often as needed.
- Kubrows, Kavats, MOAs and Predasites collapse on the ground. You can revive them to get them back sooner.
- Sentinels cannot be revived. They fly along damaged and repair themselves.
- Vulpaphylas transform for a short time and then recover.
Vacuum and
Animal Instinct keep working while the companion is incapacitated.
There are two ways to make your companion tougher. Link mods give it a share of your Warframe’s stats. The other mods raise the companion’s own base stats.
| Stat | Link mod (not for Sentinels) | Own stat (also for Sentinels) |
|---|---|---|
| Health | Link Vitality | Enhanced Vitality |
| Shields | Link Redirection | Calculated Redirection |
| Armor | Link Fiber | Metal Fiber |
09Popular companions
| Companion | Good for | Why |
|---|---|---|
Smeeta Kavat | Loot and buffs | Charm has a 40% chance every 27 s to give a random buff, such as free ability casts or triple affinity. |
Helios | Codex scanning | Investigator scans enemies and objects automatically. You need a scanner with charges. |
Oxylus | Resources in open worlds | Scan Matter shows containers and mining spots and opens nearby containers. |
Carrier | New players | Cheap, with Vacuum and the Sweeper as a strong close range weapon. |
Frequently asked questions
I am new. Which companion should I take first?
Take a Sentinel like
Taxon or
Carrier and equip
Vacuum. Then you no longer have to pick up resources yourself. You can still hatch a Kubrow or Kavat later.
Can my companion die?
Not for good anymore. At worst it is incapacitated for a while and then comes back on its own. You can also revive beasts and MOAs yourself.
Why does my Sentinel not shoot?
It is missing an attack Precept such as
Assault Mode. Without it the weapon stays silent, even when it is equipped.
Why do
Bite and
Maul no longer fit into my Kubrow?
Since the 2024 rework these mods go into the claws, your pet’s own weapon. Open the companion’s weapon section in the Arsenal.
Why do I get no mastery for my MOA?
MOAs, Hounds, Predasites and Vulpaphylas only count for mastery after gilding. Bring them to rank 30 and gild them at their vendor.
