Movement and parkour
Warframe barely explains how to move properly. Yet bullet jumps, aim gliding and wall dashes make you much faster and safer. Here you learn every important maneuver, the mods that help and a short practice run.
This tutorial is only available in English and German for now.
At a glance
- Bullet Jump
- Crouch + Jump
- Aim Glide
- 3 s per jump
- Wall Latch
- 6 s
- Dodge roll
- 75% less damage
01What is it about?
In Warframe you do not just walk. Your Warframe can slide, launch itself through the air like a bullet, hover in mid-air and run along walls. This is called parkour. If you master it, you reach your goal faster, dodge shots and get to places you could not reach otherwise. The game hardly shows you any of this, so here it is step by step.
The most important terms in short:
- Bullet Jump
- A jump out of a crouch. Your Warframe shoots off in the direction you are looking. This is the most important move in the game.
- Aim Glide
- You aim while in the air. You fall slowly and hover for a bit, and enemies hit you less often.
- Wall Dash
- You jump at a wall and run up it or sideways along it. Often called wall running.
- Wall Latch
- You cling to a wall and hang there for a moment, for example to shoot from above.
- Dodge
- A quick roll. While it lasts you take much less damage and cannot be knocked down.
- Parkour Velocity
- A stat on many mods. It makes Bullet Jump, double jump and rolls faster and longer.
- Slam Attack
- A melee attack from the air straight down. It gets you to the ground quickly or carries you a long way at an angle.
02The basic keys
Everything in this guide uses the default PC key binds. Controllers use different buttons. Most maneuvers are combinations of the same basic actions though, so they are easy to transfer.
| Action | Key (PC) |
|---|---|
| Sprint | Hold Shift |
| Dodge (roll) | Tap Shift |
| Crouch | Ctrl |
| Jump | Space |
| Aim | Right mouse button |
| Melee | E |
| Heavy attack | Middle mouse button |
| Use (e.g. zipline) | X |
03On the ground: sprint, slide, dodge
- 01
Sprint
Hold Shift. Every Warframe has its own sprint speed,
Gauss for example is especially fast. Shooting ends the sprint. - 02
Slide
Press Ctrl while moving. Your Warframe slides across the floor and slowly loses speed. This gets you under obstacles quickly, and you can shoot while sliding. Pressing melee turns the slide into a slide attack.
- 03
Dodge
Tap Shift. Your Warframe rolls forward a bit. During the roll you take 75% less damage and cannot be knocked down. Aim plus a direction (left, right or back) gives you a side roll or a backflip.
04In the air: Bullet Jump, double jump, Aim Glide
- 01
Bullet Jump
Hold Crouch (Ctrl) and press Jump (Space). Your Warframe shoots up at an angle toward where you look. It also works straight out of a slide, which makes it extra fast. Look down and you fly up steeply.
- 02
Double jump
Press Jump again in the air. After a Bullet Jump you can still add a double jump, but not the other way round.
- 03
Aim Glide
Hold the right mouse button in the air. You fall slowly and hover for about 3 seconds. During that time you can aim well and enemies hit you less often. After that you fall normally.
- 04
Air roll
You can also dodge once in the air. Use it to change direction quickly or stretch a jump.
The standard chain for moving fast looks like this: slide, Bullet Jump forward, short Aim Glide, double jump, land and slide again right away. That is much faster than plain sprinting.
05On walls: Wall Dash and Wall Latch
- 01
Wall dash upward
Sprint straight at a wall and press Jump. Keep holding Jump to run up the wall.
- 02
Wall dash sideways
Sprint at a wall at an angle and press Jump. You run along the wall. Steer with the camera: up, sideways or away from the wall.
- 03
Wall Latch
Aim (right mouse button) during a wall dash. You cling to the wall for up to 6 seconds. This timer is shared with Aim Glide.
- 04
Jump off the wall
Turn the camera away from the wall and jump, or do a Bullet Jump right away.
When you reach a ledge, your Warframe pulls itself up automatically. Press Jump again during this to climb faster.
06With melee: Slam Attack and slide attack
- Slam Attack: Look down in the air and press E. Your Warframe dives at the ground. Good for getting down a cliff fast, and depending on the angle also for covering long distances diagonally.
- Heavy Slam Attack: Middle mouse button in the air. It never turns into a normal aerial attack by accident, which makes it better for long, flat leaps.
- Slide attack: Press melee while sliding, or in the air after crouching. Your Warframe spins with the weapon. Light, fast weapons push you forward a little.
07Ziplines, hard landings, Operator and Drifter
- Zipline: Some maps have lines strung between two points. Press X near one, even in the air, and you stand on it. You can walk, sprint, slide and shoot on it, but not cast abilities or use melee. Press X again or Bullet Jump to get off.
- Hard landing: If you fall from a big height, your Warframe lands heavily and cannot move for a moment. There is no damage. Avoid it by double jumping, rolling or Aim Gliding just before the ground. The mod
Kavat's Grace also helps. - Void Sling: Your Operator hurls themselves through the Void a short way toward where you look. On PC press Jump in the air or Ctrl + Space. A tap covers about 15 m, holding it up to 30 m. While slinging you are invisible and invulnerable and knock enemies back. It costs 25 Operator energy. You unlock the Operator with the quest “The War Within”, more in Focus, Operator and Drifter explained.
- Drifter in Duviri: The Drifter moves more simply on foot than a Warframe. Instead of sliding like the Operator, they do a normal roll. For long distances there you call your Kaithe as a mount.
08Mods for better movement
Most movement mods are Exilus mods. You put them into the Exilus slot and do not lose a normal slot for damage or survival. You unlock that slot with a Warframe Exilus Adapter, see Modding basics: capacity, Endo, Forma and more.
| Mod | Slot | Effect (max rank) | Where from |
|---|---|---|---|
Mobilize | Exilus | +20% Parkour Velocity, +20% Aim Glide/Wall Latch duration | Sabotage on Desdemona (Uranus), tradeable |
Lightning Dash, Firewalker, Ice Spring, Toxic Flight | Exilus | +24.2% Parkour Velocity, +24.2% Aim Glide/Wall Latch duration, elemental damage on Bullet Jump | Lightning Dash and Firewalker: Sabotage on Desdemona, tradeable |
Patagium | Exilus | +90% Aim Glide/Wall Latch duration | Sabotage on Desdemona, tradeable |
Aero Vantage | Exilus | −100% gravity while Aim Gliding | Disruption on Ganymede (Jupiter), Amalgam enemies |
Rush | Exilus | +30% sprint speed | Capture missions |
Streamlined Form | Exilus | +30% slide, −30% friction | Nightmare missions |
| Normal | On dodge: invulnerable for 3 s, removes status effects, 7 s cooldown | Arbiters of Hexis, 20 Vitus Essence | |
Aerodynamic | Aura | Squad takes 24% less damage in the air, longer Aim Glide and Wall Latch | Arbiters of Hexis, 30 Vitus Essence |
Sprint Boost | Aura | Squad +15% sprint speed | Nightwave shop |
Almost all of these mods are tradeable and usually cost only a little platinum from other players. Rolling Guard comes from Arbitrations: rules, Vitus Essence and rewards.
09A short practice run
It is best to practice in an easy mission where nothing threatens you, for example on Earth or on the Plains of Eidolon outside Cetus. Take five minutes and go through these steps:
- 01
Straight line
Slide, Bullet Jump forward, short Aim Glide, double jump, land, slide again right away. Repeat until it feels smooth.
- 02
Upward
Find a tall wall. Look down, Bullet Jump steeply up, then wall dash higher and pull yourself over the ledge.
- 03
Between two walls
In a wide corridor, jump from wall to wall without touching the floor. Every wall recharges your jumps.
- 04
From above
Climb to a high spot, Wall Latch, aim down, then land with a Slam Attack and roll away right after.
- 05
In combat
At the next group of enemies, go airborne, Aim Glide and shoot from above. If you take heavy hits, roll away.
Frequently asked questions
I am new. What should I learn first?
Bullet Jump (Crouch + Jump) and Aim Glide (aim in the air). These two alone make you much faster than normal running. After that, learn wall dashes and dodging.
Why can I not do a second Bullet Jump?
You only get one per jump. It is ready again once you touch the ground or a wall. A double jump still works after the Bullet Jump though.
Do I take fall damage?
No. Falling from a big height only causes a hard landing where you stand still for a moment. Roll or jump just before the ground and it will not happen.
Which movement mod is worth it most?
At the start,
Mobilize or one of the elemental parkour mods like
Lightning Dash in the Exilus slot. If you like fighting from above, add
Aero Vantage.
Does coptering still exist?
Not in its old form. Parkour 2.0 removed the trick in 2015. Bullet Jump and Aim Glide are faster and easier today.
