Riven Mods: get, unveil and cycle them

A Riven Mod belongs to a single weapon, for example a Soma or a Bo. It has random bonuses and sometimes a drawback. A good Riven can make a weapon much stronger. Since every Riven is different, they are also popular for trading.

The key terms in short:

Veiled Riven

A new Riven whose weapon and stats are still unknown. You first have to complete a challenge.

Unveil

Once you complete the challenge, you see the Riven’s weapon, stats and polarity.

Cycle

Rerolling a Riven’s stats. This costs Kuva.

Trait

A single bonus or drawback on the Riven, for example Critical Chance.

Riven Sliver

A resource from Eximus enemies. You trade it to Palladino for Rivens and more.

Disposition

Formerly a per-weapon factor that made Riven stats stronger or weaker. Now the same for every weapon.

You get your first Riven in the quest “The War Within”. After that there are several steady sources:

• Archgun Riven Mods are sold in Arbitrations: rules, Vitus Essence and rewards for 35 Vitus Essence.
• Companion Weapon Riven Mods come from Cephalon Simaris for 100,000 standing or from Acrithis for 20 Pathos Clamps.
• Nightwave and event rewards occasionally give Rivens too.

   Equip the Riven

   Equip the veiled Riven on a weapon of the matching class, for example a Rifle Riven on a rifle. From now on it uses a Riven slot.

   Read the challenge

   The Riven now shows a task, like a number of headshots or a mission without being detected.

   Complete it

   The weapon with the Riven must be in your loadout. What you complete the task with does not matter. Abilities count too.

   The Riven is unveiled

   You now see which weapon the Riven is for and what stats it has. The weapon is only rolled at this moment.

• Every Riven has 2 or 3 bonuses and sometimes 1 drawback. With a drawback the bonuses are higher.
• Rank, polarity (Madurai, Naramon or Vazarin) and the required Mastery Rank (8 to 16) are fixed. Cycling does not change them.
• You can rank a Riven up to rank 8.
• A Riven fits every variant of its weapon, including Prime, Vandal or Prisma versions.

In the Mods section of your Orbiter you can cycle an unveiled Riven. You then see the old and the new version and keep the better one. Every cycle of the same Riven costs more, up to a cap.

• Trait locking: While cycling you can lock one trait. It stays the same, but every attempt costs twice the Kuva. The number of bonuses and drawbacks also stays the same.
• Splicing: With a Riven Splicer you merge two specific traits into a new one, for example Toxin and Cold into Viral. The spliced trait stays when cycling without doubling the cost. Riven Splicers only come from The Icebind on Yuvan Peak.

Ways to get Kuva include:

• Kuva Siphon missions (550 to 700 Kuva) and Kuva Flood missions (1,100 to 1,400 Kuva) on planets next to the Kuva Fortress. You need “The War Within” for them.
• Teshin: 10,000 Kuva for 15 Steel Essence, up to 25 times a week.
• Palladino: 35,000 Kuva for 10 Riven Slivers, once a week.
• The Circuit on the Steel Path: 20,000 Kuva as a selectable tier reward.
• Nightwave offerings: 10,000 Kuva for 50 Nightwave Cred.

• From Mastery Rank 8 you can trade Rivens with other players, usually for platinum. The credit trade tax equals that of a rare mod.
• Square brackets in chat, like [Riven name], link your Riven. Others can then see its stats.
• You start with 15 Riven slots. More cost 20 platinum each, and Mastery Rank 30 adds 30 slots. 210 is the maximum.
• A Riven you have never equipped does not use a slot. It only counts once you equip it.
• A Riven Transmuter turns 4 Rivens into a new veiled Riven. You get it by capturing an Eidolon Hydrolyst, from Loid for Vessel Capillaries, or from Palladino for 10 Riven Slivers.
• You can dissolve useless Rivens into Endo. A higher Mastery Rank requirement, higher rank and more cycles give more Endo.
