Railjack and Intrinsics: finally start without the pain
The Railjack is your own spaceship for crewed space missions. Many players put it off for ages. Here you learn how to build it, what Intrinsics unlock and how to get started the easy way.
This tutorial is only available in English and German for now.

01What is it about?
The Railjack is a large Orokin warship that you rebuild in the quest “Rising Tide”. You fly missions in space with it: you shoot down fighters, board enemy ships with your Archwing and repair damage on board. Up to four players share one ship. If you lack players, hired NPCs help out. For Kuva Liches, Sisters of Parvos and “The New War” there is no way around the Railjack.
The most important terms explained:
- Dry Dock
- The hangar for your Railjack. There you build, repair and equip it. You find one in a Clan Dojo and in the Saturn and Pluto Relays.
- Proxima
- The space regions for Railjack missions, for example Earth Proxima or Veil Proxima. They have their own star chart.
- Intrinsics
- Your personal Railjack skills in five classes. You earn points only in Railjack missions. They also work on other players’ ships.
- Plexus
- The mod board for Railjack mods. It belongs to you, not the ship, so you take it to every Railjack.
- Wreckage
- Damaged components and turrets you find in space. You have to inspect them first and repair them in the Dry Dock.
- Omni
- Your repair tool on board. You use it to put out fires and patch hull breaches.
- Resource Forge
- The stations at the back of the Railjack. There you craft supplies during the mission, for example energy or munitions.
02The quest “Rising Tide”
Since 2025 you need “The War Within” first. Then you start “Rising Tide” from the Codex, and the blueprint message arrives in your inbox. You look for six wrecks on the normal star chart. Each time you plant a scanner and defend it until it is done. Then you repair the part in the Dry Dock.
- 01
Build the Railjack Cephalon
Build the blueprint from your inbox in the Foundry. It takes only 10 seconds. Then install the Cephalon in the Dry Dock.
- 02
Recover the wrecks
Play the six recovery missions. You may play them with other players too.
- 03
Repair the parts
Bring each part to the Dry Dock and pay the resources. You can do that in stages. Each repair then takes about one minute and cannot be rushed.
- 04
Get the Reliquary Key
Once the ship is complete, it still lacks its drive. A short mission on Lua gets you the key. Then your Railjack is ready to fly.
| Part | Location | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Railjack Cephalon | Inbox | 5,000 Credits, 15 Mutagen Sample, 15 Detonite Ampule, 15 Fieldron Sample |
| Fuselage | Ares (Mars) | 25,000 Credits, 250 Plastid, 1,250 Rubedo, 3 Sinir Sensörleri |
| Propulsion Systems | Cervantes (Earth) | 25,000 Credits, 250 Kriyotik, 1 Orokin Hücresi, 1,250 Nano Hücreler |
| Port Nacelle | Plato (Lua) | 25,000 Credits, 400 Devreler, 2,000 Alaşım Plaka, 500 Polimer Demeti |
| Starboard Nacelle | Tessera (Venus) | 25,000 Credits, 400 Devreler, 2,000 Alaşım Plaka, 500 Polimer Demeti |
| Tail Section | Berehynia (Sedna) | 25,000 Credits, 750 Ferrit, 300 Polimer Demeti, 250 Kriyotik |
| Engine Cowling | Orias (Europa) | 25,000 Credits, 10 Detonite Ampule, 750 Ferrit, 1,000 Değerli Metal |
03Dry Dock, components and armaments
Without a clan you use the Dry Dock in the Saturn or Pluto Relay. That is fine to start. Sigma components from Dojo research, however, require a clan with its own Dry Dock.
Your Railjack has four components: Shield Array (shields), Engines (speed), Plating (hull and armor) and Reactor (boosts your Battle mods). On top of that come the turrets, for example Apoc, Carcinnox, Cryophon, Photor or Pulsar, and the Ordnance, meaning missiles.
| House | Strength | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sigma | Solid base stats, standard gear | Clan Dojo research |
| Lavan | Strong shields and engines, cheaper | Wreckage in missions |
| Vidar | Balanced, sturdy plating | Wreckage in missions |
| Zetki | Best stats, but very expensive | Wreckage in missions |
- Wreckage comes in several tiers. Roughly: MK I in Earth and Venus Proxima, MK II in Saturn and Neptune Proxima, MK III in Pluto and Veil Proxima.
- Repairing components takes 12 hours, turrets 2 hours. You can rush either for 20 Platinum or finish it instantly with a Rush Repair Drone.
- You have 8 slots for repaired parts. Two more cost 12 Platinum.
- You may hold at most 30 inspected Wreckage parts. When you are full, you cannot start Railjack missions. Scrap what you do not need for Endo.
- Two identical parts (same House, same type) can be combined with Valence Fusion. This improves their bonuses.
04Plexus and Railjack mods
There used to be “Avionics” for the ship. Since 2021 the Plexus has replaced that system. You get it after the quest “The Archwing” and configure it at the terminal at the front of your Orbiter or in the Dry Dock. It ranks up to 30 and gives 6,000 Mastery XP along the way. You find Railjack mods in Railjack missions.
| Mod type | What it does | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Integrated | Passive bonuses for you. One slot is for an aura that helps the whole team. | Ironclad Matrix, Cruising Speed, Hyperstrike |
| Battle | Active ship abilities. They cost Warframe energy. | Seeker Volley, Void Hole, Particle Ram |
| Tactical | Abilities you trigger from the Tactical Menu. | Battle Forge, Fire Suppression, Void Cloak |
05Intrinsics: the five classes
Intrinsics are your Railjack skills. Each class has 10 ranks, and every rank costs twice as many points as the one before. Important: you can never reset points. Every rank also gives you 1,500 Mastery XP.
| Class | Key ranks |
|---|---|
| Tactical | R1 Tactical Menu · R3 fast travel inside the ship · R4 warp back aboard with the Omni · R5 Necramechs in all Railjack missions · R7 and R9 shorter Tactical mod cooldown · R10 warp to a crew member |
| Piloting | R1 Boost · R2 Vector Maneuver · R5 triple loot pickup radius, hidden derelicts marked · R8 +20% Archwing speed · R10 Railjack Blink |
| Gunnery | R1 +50% damage for dorsal and ventral turrets · R2 turrets turn 360 degrees · R3 Archwing Slingshot · R6 and R7 less heat · R8 stronger Archwing |
| Engineering | R1 faster repairs · R3 craft Munitions · R4 Dome Charges for the Forward Artillery · R5 and R7 +25% Forge yield each · R10 remote repairs |
| Command | R1, R3, R5 one crew slot each · R2, R4, R6 competency points · R8 converted adversaries as crew · R9 “On Call” crew · R10 elite crew |
| Rank | Points for this rank | Total points |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 4 | 7 |
| 5 | 16 | 31 |
| 7 | 64 | 127 |
| 10 | 512 | 1,023 |
06Farming Intrinsics points
You only get points from Affinity in Railjack missions. A tenth of it counts, and 1,000 of these Intrinsics XP make one point. Affinity is shared across the whole squad, no matter where you are.
| Action | Intrinsics XP |
|---|---|
| Repair a large hull breach | 400 |
| Fix a hull rupture, fire, electrical fault or ice | 250 |
| Craft something at the Resource Forge | 30 |
| Destroy enemies and ships | 10% of the Affinity |
- Affinity Boosters also work for Intrinsics.
- Kills by your NPC crew give you no points.
- Popular options are long Survival runs on Luckless Expanse (Venus Proxima) and stealth kills in Veil Proxima.
- If you die, you keep your progress.
07Regions and Railjack resources
| Region | Faction | Unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Earth Proxima | Grineer | Right away |
| Venus Proxima | Corpus | Right away |
| Saturn Proxima | Grineer | One Intrinsics class at rank 3 |
| Neptune Proxima | Corpus | One Intrinsics class at rank 3 |
| Pluto Proxima | Corpus | One Intrinsics class at rank 5 |
| Veil Proxima | Grineer and Corpus | One Intrinsics class at rank 7 |
| Uranus Proxima | Corpus | Quest “Jade Shadows: Constellations” |
At the end of every mission you get two resource bundles. You pick up more resources in space, for example from asteroids and wrecks.
| Resource | Source |
|---|---|
Karbür | Grineer regions (Earth, Saturn, Veil). Also from Eximus enemies in the Grineer Shipyard tileset. |
Kübik Diyotlar | Corpus regions (Venus, Neptune, Pluto). Also from Eximus enemies in the Corpus Ice Planet tileset. |
Titanyum, Asterit, Nullstone | All regions. Titanium is common, Asterite uncommon, Nullstones rare. |
Gallos Çubukları, Komms | Grineer regions |
| Isos, Aucrux Capacitors | Corpus regions |
Ticor Plakası | In missions. The Resource Forge needs it for supplies. |

08Crew: help when you fly alone
From Command rank 1 you hire crew from Ticker in Fortuna (Venus). You pay with Credits or Railjack resources. Each member gets a role: Pilot, Gunner, Engineer (repairs) or Defender (fights boarders). When real players join, they replace your NPCs.
- An Engineer is the most important member for solo players. They keep the ship alive.
- From Command rank 8, converted Kuva Liches, Sisters of Parvos and Technocyte Codas can fly with you, but only as Defenders.
- From rank 9 you can call one crew member into normal missions with “On Call Crew”.
09What you need the Railjack for
| Content | What you need |
|---|---|
| Kuva Lich finale | Fight in Saturn Proxima. You need one Intrinsics class at rank 5. |
| Sister of Parvos finale | Fight in Neptune Proxima. One class at rank 3 is enough. |
| Technocyte Coda finale | Fight at the Höllvania Stadium in Earth Proxima |
| Quest “The New War” | You must own a Railjack. |
| Void Storms | Railjack fissures. They give parts for Sevagoth and Epitaph as well as Radiant relics. |
Details on the adversaries are in Kuva Liches: create, decode and defeat them and Sisters of Parvos: Candidate, Hounds and Tenet weapons. Where the Railjack fits into the story is shown in Quest order: which quest when?.
10Your painless start
- 01
Ride along first
After “The Archwing” you can play Railjack missions without your own ship. Pick a node in Earth or Venus Proxima or use the button to join a crew at the top right of the Navigation screen. This already earns you Intrinsics and resources.
- 02
Finish the quest
Complete “Rising Tide”. You usually already have the resources from the normal star chart.
- 03
Try Free Flight
The practice node Free Flight in Earth Proxima has no enemies. Learn the controls and the ship there at your own pace.
- 04
Spend your first points wisely
Get one class to rank 3 for Saturn and Neptune Proxima. Good first goals are Tactical 3 (fast travel), Gunnery 3 (Archwing Slingshot) and Piloting 5 (loot radius). After that, one class at rank 5 for the Lich finale and Pluto Proxima.
- 05
Gear up with what you find
Inspect Wreckage, repair only the best parts and scrap the rest for Endo. MK I parts from Earth and Venus Proxima are fine at first. With a clan, Sigma research in the Dojo is worth it.
- 06
Solo? Hire crew
One Command rank is enough for a first crew member. Take an Engineer, then you have to repair less yourself.
Frequently asked questions
I am new. When should I start with Railjack?
As soon as you have finished “The War Within”. The quest is short and cheap. At the latest when you want to defeat your first Kuva Lich, you need the Railjack and one Intrinsics class at rank 5.
Do I need a clan?
No. The Dry Dock in the Saturn and Pluto Relays is enough for the quest, repairs and gear. Only Sigma research is exclusive to the Clan Dojo.
Can I reset my Intrinsics?
No, spent points stay where they are. That is not a big deal: in the end you can bring all five classes to rank 10.
What do I do with Copernics or Pustrels in my inventory?
Nothing. Since 2021 you no longer need them for Railjack, and they no longer drop in Railjack missions.
Can I play Railjack completely alone?
Yes. From Command rank 1 hire crew from Ticker, ideally an Engineer first. With Tactical 3 you jump quickly between the bridge, the turrets and the Resource Forge. It is still easier in a public squad.
