Fishing in the open worlds
With a fishing spear you catch fish on the Plains of Eidolon, in the Orb Vallis and in the Cambion Drift. Here is how to get started, which fish are worth it and what you need the fish parts for.
This tutorial is only available in English and German for now.

01What is it about?
Fishing is a calm side activity in the open worlds. You throw a spear at fish in the water and then bring your catch to the vendor in town. There you trade the fish for standing or have them cut into fish parts. You need those parts for many blueprints, for example Zaws, Kitguns, Amps and even whole Warframes.
The key terms in short:
- Fishing spear
- Your fishing tool. You buy it from the fish vendor and use it as gear. Different spears suit different fish.
- Bait
- A consumable you throw into the water. It attracts certain fish. Rare fish on the Plains only show up with the right bait.
- Hotspot
- A special spot in the water. On the Plains you see white, circling bubbles, in the Orb Vallis and on Deimos a greenish shimmering patch. Bait works here.
- Servofish
- The fish in the Orb Vallis are Corpus and Orokin robots. You catch them best with a shock spear.
- Exocrine
- The thick Infested mass in the Cambion Drift. Only Daughter’s spears can pierce it.
- Cutting
- The vendor cuts your fish open. You get common parts like
Fish Meat plus one special part that only this species has. - Luminous Dye
- A tool from Fisher Hai-Luk. It colors the water so the fish glow brightly and are easier to see.
02Why fish at all?
- Standing: Fisher Hai-Luk (Ostron) and The Business (Solaris United) trade whole fish directly for standing. Rare fish give up to 2,000 standing each.
- Resources for blueprints: Fish parts are in many open world blueprints. Without them you will not get far with Zaws, Kitguns, MOAs, Amps and Necramechs.
- Ranking up: Rank 2 with the Ostron, for example, needs 60 Fish Scales.
- Decoration: Every vendor sells trophy blueprints you can place in your Orbiter.
A few examples of what the parts are used for:
| World | Fish parts | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Plains of Eidolon | Fish Scales, Fish Oil, Norg Brain, Murkray Liver, Tralok Eyes, Mortus Horn, Sharrac Teeth | Zaw parts like Balla or Jai, Amp parts (prism, scaffold, brace), Grendel, Caliban, Vasca Curative for a Vasca Kavat |
| Orb Vallis | Scrap, Synathid Ecosynth Analyzer, Charamote Sagan Module, Tromyzon Entroplasma, Eye-Eye Rotoblade | Kitgun parts, MOA parts, Amp parts, parts for Baruuk and Yareli, the Oxylus sentinel |
| Cambion Drift | Ferment Bladder, Spinal Core Section, Cranial Foremount, Saturated Muscle Mass, Sporulate Sac, Pustulent Cognitive Nodule | Necramechs (Voidrig, Bonewidow), antigens and mutagens for Predasites and Vulpaphylas, Infested Kitguns, Helminth Segment, parts for Xaku |
| Duviri | Nacreous Pebble, Ariette Scale, Maw Fang | Kullervo and some Duviri weapons |
03How to get started
- 01
Earn some standing
The first spear costs 500 standing. Run one or two bounties in that world for it, for example with Konzu in Cetus.
- 02
Buy a spear
Go to the fish vendor and buy a spear. On the Plains the Lanzo or Peram Fishing Spear, in the Orb Vallis the Shockprod Fishing Spear, on Deimos the Spari Spear. Add a few cheap baits and some Luminous Dye.
- 03
Equip the spear
Open the Arsenal and put a spear into a gear slot. One is enough: every other spear, bait and dye you own can be picked straight from the fishing menu later.
- 04
Go to the water
Find a lake, pond, the coast or a cave with water. Pull out the spear through the gear wheel (default: hold Q). Only now do fish start to spawn.
- 05
Aim and throw
Hold the right mouse button to aim. The surroundings go quiet and you can hear the fish splashing. Throw with the left mouse button.
- 06
Turn in your catch
Back in town you trade the fish for standing at the vendor or have them cut.
04Vendors and spears
| World | Vendor | Spears | Standing with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plains of Eidolon | Fisher Hai-Luk in Cetus | Lanzo, Tulok and Peram Fishing Spear (500 each, from rank 0) | Ostron |
| Orb Vallis | The Business in Fortuna | Shockprod Fishing Spear (500, rank 0), Stunna Fishing Spear (5,000, rank 3) | Solaris United |
| Cambion Drift | Daughter in the Necralisk | Spari Spear (500, rank 0), Ebisu Spear (5,000, rank 3) | Entrati |
- On the Plains each spear suits different fish. The Lanzo is good for smooth fish like Charc Eel, Goopolla, Murkray or Cuthol. The Peram is for scaly fish like Mawfish, Norg or Glappid. You need the Tulok for the armored Tralok.
- You can catch Servofish with Cetus spears too, but they get damaged and then give less standing and fewer parts.
- Daughter’s spears also work on the Plains: the Ebisu behaves like the Lanzo, the Spari like the Tulok.
05How to hit the fish
- The spear flies in a slight arc and takes a moment to arrive. Aim a bit above the fish and a little ahead of it, in the direction it swims.
- Watch the fish names that appear over the water while you aim. That way you know what you are looking at.
- Do not walk into the water and do not throw wildly. Scared fish flee, and scaring them too often makes them disappear entirely.
- Luminous Dye makes every fish nearby glow brightly. That helps a lot at night and in murky water.
- One bait per hotspot is enough. You do not have to hit the bubbles exactly, close is fine. The bait lasts up to three minutes.
- You are defenseless while fishing. Clear out nearby enemies first or fish with a squad.
Shock spears in the Orb Vallis: Once you hit a Servofish, a bar appears with a marker moving back and forth. Press fire when the marker is inside the small red zone. The fish is stunned and you pull it out. If you miss the zone, you stagger and the fish escapes.
06Plains of Eidolon (Cetus)
On the Plains the time of day matters. A cycle lasts about 150 minutes: 100 minutes of day, 50 minutes of night. There are three kinds of water: the big lake right north of Cetus, the many small ponds, and the ocean coast to the left and right of the gate.
The most valuable fish only show up with the right bait at a hotspot:
| Fish | Where | When | Bait (rank) | Spear | Standing (small / medium / large) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Glappid | Ocean, hotspot | Night | Glappid Bait (5) | Peram | 1,200 / 1,500 / 2,000 |
| Norg | Lake, hotspot | Night | Norg Bait (3) | Peram | 500 / 650 / 1,000 |
| Cuthol | Pond, hotspot | Night | Cuthol Bait (4) | Lanzo | 500 / 625 / 1,000 |
| Murkray | Ocean, hotspot | Day and night | Murkray Bait (2) | Lanzo | 500 / 625 / 1,000 |
| Sharrac, Karkina | Ocean | Day and night | Twilight Bait (1) | Lanzo or Tulok | 100 / 125 / 200 |
| Mortus Lungfish | Pond | Day and night, more common at night | none | Lanzo or Peram | 100 / 125 / 200 |
- Every Plains fish gives
Fish Meat, Fish Scales and
Fish Oil when cut, plus its special part, e.g.
Norg Brain from the Norg or Seram Beetle Shell from the Glappid. - Common fish like Mawfish, Charc Eel or Goopolla give only 25 to 50 standing. They are still worth it for Fish Scales and Fish Oil.
- You buy bait from Hai-Luk with standing. The rarer the fish, the higher the rank you need.
07Orb Vallis (Fortuna)
Instead of real fish, the Orb Vallis has Servofish swimming in coolant. Instead of day and night the weather changes: about 6 minutes 40 seconds warm, then 20 minutes cold. Fishing spots are the big lake right outside the Fortuna elevator, ponds, and caves with coolant.
Servofish come in three quality grades. You tell them apart by the number of attachments, not by size. Every species can appear without bait, but the matching bait makes it far more likely.
| Servofish | Where | Weather | Bait (rank) | Standing (3 grades) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Synathid | Cave, hotspot | Warm and cold, prefers warm | Synathid Bait (4) | 600 / 800 / 1,000 |
| Charamote | Cave, hotspot | Warm and cold | Charamote Bait (3) | 200 / 300 / 500 |
| Tromyzon | Pond, hotspot | Cold | Tromyzon Bait (3) | 200 / 300 / 500 |
| Longwinder | Big lake, hotspot | Warm | Longwinder Bait (2) | 200 / 300 / 500 |
- Cutting always gives
Scrap and the species’ special part, e.g.
Synathid Ecosynth Analyzer or
Tromyzon Entroplasma. - The Stunna Fishing Spear also stuns every Servofish nearby on a successful shock.
- Common Servofish like Scrubber, Tink or Brickie are attracted by the cheap Broad-Spectrum Bait.
08Cambion Drift (Necralisk)
On Deimos the two wyrms Fass and Vome decide which fish are out. Fass is active for 100 minutes, Vome for 50, at the same time as day and night on the Plains. The fish swim on the surface or in caves through the exocrine. Daughter’s spears hit them inside it, other spears only when they jump out of the mass.
You collect the basic bait yourself: while Vome is active you find Fass Residue in orange zones, while Fass is active Vome Residue lies around. The processed bait for rare fish is sold by Daughter.
| Fish | Where | When | Bait (rank) | Special part |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Myxostomata | Cave, hotspot | Vome | Processed Vome Residue (4) | Cranial Foremount |
| Aquapulmo | Surface, hotspot | Vome | Processed Fass Residue (3) | Biotic Filter, Pustulent Cognitive Nodule |
| Flagellocanth | Surface, hotspot | Fass and Vome | Processed Fass Residue (3) | Ocular Stem-Root |
| Chondricord | Cave, hotspot | Fass and Vome | Vome Residue | Spinal Core Section |
| Duroid | Cave, hotspot | Fass and Vome | Vome Residue | Biotic Filter |
09Duviri: Maw Feeding
In Duviri you do not fish with a spear. Instead, you find platforms near the water that let you control the Golden Maw, a giant worm, for a short time. With it you snap up as many fish as you can before the timer runs out. This only works in The Duviri Experience.
- From 10 fish you get fishing resources like
Nacreous Pebble,
Ariette Scale and
Maw Fang, with 15 fish you get more. - If you catch 15 fish on your first feeding in a Duviri run, you also get a live fish for the aquarium in your Orbiter.

10Final tips
- Before fishing, always check whether it is day or night, warm or cold, Fass or Vome. You can see the current cycle on the Star Chart.
- Do not hand in common fish for standing without thinking. Many parts need large amounts of Fish Scales, Fish Oil or
Scrap. - Keep some special parts from rare fish. They are often needed for strong Amp and Kitgun parts.
- Fishing goes well with Mining in the open worlds and Conservation: capturing animals in the open worlds: all three happen in the same open worlds and give standing with the same syndicates.

Frequently asked questions
I am new. Where should I start fishing?
On the Plains of Eidolon. Run a bounty for Konzu, buy the Lanzo and Peram from Fisher Hai-Luk plus some Luminous Dye. Then try the big lake north of Cetus. It is quiet there and the fish are easy to hit.
Why do I not see any rare fish?
Rare Plains fish only appear with the right bait at a hotspot, and usually only at a certain time of day. Check location, time and bait in the tables above.
Is fishing worth it for standing?
Yes, especially with rare fish. A large Glappid gives 2,000 Ostron standing, a good Synathid 1,000 Solaris United standing. Keep the daily standing cap in mind, though.
Do I need a separate spear for each world?
For good results, yes. Normal spears damage Servofish, and on Deimos you cannot get through the exocrine without Daughter’s spears.
What do I do with the boots I pull out of the water?
Every now and then you catch a boot instead of a fish. Keep it: Fisher Hai-Luk and The Business sell a blueprint for a boot trophy you can place in your Orbiter.
